When we started our Medical Billing Service in 1994 there was very little information available on medical billing services let alone medical billing service contracts. In fact some of the information indicated that you really didnt even need a contract if you didnt want one. That couldnt be further from the truth! Having a contract for your Medical Billing Service is very important to protect both you and the provider. Many new billing services ask us for a sample contract or a copy of our contract. Using a sample contract or somebody elses contract is not a good idea. It would be like taking somebody elses will whiting out their name and writing in yours. The only time it will hurt you is when you die and then your family could be in trouble.
Indeed samples are a great way to simultaneously give the client a specific set of options which in turn makes billing that much easier while maintaining control over your time and schedule. And when you consider that the time saved can be used to take one jobs that are perhaps more custom in nature (and thus cost more) then you can see that sample business proposals are an excellent idea. Not only that but it allows you get get through each project before the actual deadline which will result in more repeat business as well as a greater level of "word of mouth" marketing which is the best form of marketing for a business. Sample business proposals then are an integral part of your successful business and will allow you to grow your business that much quicker.
When the doctor has signed a contract that says that he will designate a person responsible for that purpose you can nicely inform the person responsible for getting you the eobs that this is such an important issue to you that it is written into the contract that the doctor signed that you are to be provided with the eobs. You can also include a provision in the contract to specify what you can do if the provider is not providing you with the eobs. Another important example is an issue you will undoubtedly run into - your payment. Many people who start this business are used to receiving a regular paycheck. When you make the move to being an entrepreneur and owning your own business you can only write yourself a paycheck if your providers pay you.
